Day 94 of my 47th year
I woke up in the morning and immediately went to get a haircut from Vika. When I came home, the girls had turned the kitchen into a bakery — they were making croissants out of puff pastry. We had a quick breakfast and left for the Shalom Theater on Novoslobodskaya, in the former Meyerhold Center. We called a cab, but my wife suddenly got into one of her fierce moods (as usual, we were running late) and, annoyed that the driver had taken too long, tried to jump into his car while it was still practically moving. One word led to another, and they were arguing within twenty seconds. =) Hot-blooded Finnish boy and girl. In the end the driver refused to take us, and Masha refused to ride with him. We ordered a second taxi and arrived at the theater about ten minutes late.
They still let us into the performance, but seated us in the gallery even though our tickets were for the third row. The show was about the creation of the world — a mix of puppet theater, magic tricks, and live performance. A pleasant impression. I think it was Leia’s first trip to the theater. She was not especially into it because she wanted a drink and kept popping up. After the show we had juice and pastries at the buffet and headed home.
At home I worked on various things — fixed two lamps, and even had to resolder one of them to replace the wires. In the end I repaired them and felt very pleased with myself. I also fixed the upholstery vacuum cleaner. I did a little work on my dissertation, but more importantly I thought a lot about it and came up with a pretty solid plan for Chapter Four. Now I just need to put it all into words on paper. I chatted with Misha. I cooked delicious borscht. In the evening I watched that series about the invasion of Earth. An alien finally showed up.
We booked a car for the vacation, booked the apartment, and paid the deposit. We went to bed late, around 2 a.m.
