Taxonomy

Taxonomy, from the Ancient Greek words for “order” and “law,” is the study of the principles and practice of classifying and systematizing complex, hierarchically organized systems. It arranges objects according to shared characteristics, as in biology or geography, creating a convenient structure—usually tree-like—for search, analysis, and navigation.
