Palimpsest

A manuscript on parchment or another material in which a new text has been written over erased or washed-off writing. The term is also used for rock paintings or modern cultural objects with a layered structure, as well as for the medical term “alcoholic palimpsest,” meaning partial or complete memory loss for a period of drinking.
