Speed Reading Trainer: a Modern Way to Read Faster and More Deeply

Speed reading is the skill of perceiving text at high speed without losing meaning. Today, as the flow of information keeps growing, the ability to read quickly and well is especially valuable. We developed an intuitive web application that helps build this skill comfortably and effectively.
What makes this trainer special?
- The app displays text one word at a time, while short function words are shown together with the following word to preserve a natural reading rhythm.
- Word display speed increases smoothly—from a comfortable pace up to 600 words per minute—which allows perception to be trained gradually.
- Long words are shown a little longer so the brain has time to process them, while short words are displayed more quickly. This brings the rhythm closer to natural text perception.
- Pause on Space, speed and font-size switching via keyboard shortcuts, and mobile swipe controls make the app convenient and intuitive to use.
- The app saves the text, progress, and settings, and returns the user to where they left off even after the browser is restarted.
A bit of theory: research shows that traditional line-by-line reading slows perception because of frequent eye movements and regressions. The RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation) method on which the trainer is based helps focus attention and eliminate unnecessary eye movement. This supports deeper concentration and improves short-term memory training.
Gradually increasing reading speed while maintaining comprehension develops not only perception speed, but also cognitive flexibility, concentration, and the ability to hold meaning under a fast flow of information.
